The Forever Home Flyer

The Newsletter of

First State Greyhound Rescue

March 24, 2008
Here's to the Volunteers!!               Photobucket

First State Greyhound Rescue is an all volunteer organization.  We all know that...but sometimes we all overlook the immense amount of work that our volunteers do...all to put wonderful dogs in wonderful homes.  So this issue of the Forever Home Flyer is dedicated to the Volunteers...all those who transport...foster...attend & host meet & greet events...stuff envelopes...make phone calls...those who dedicate their spare time, their hard work, and yes, sometimes their tears, to making First State the greyt group it is!

Special Thanks go to...

First, enormous "Thanks!" to Sue Mason.
Sue has served First State as a board member, and has decided
that time constraints prevent her from continuing in that capacity.  But never fear, Sue is going to continue to serve in the vital role of Adoption
Coordinator, taking pains to match each hound into its perfect home.
Thanks for all of your help, Sue, past, present and future!

And...by now you'll have noticed the new look of the First State Website!

While the entire Board had input into the new site, Susan Martin, has been the driving force behind this long, complex project, by turns clicking, researching, cajoling, pushing and coaxing, until the new site was tuned, polished, and humming!  And thanks to Joe, our Webmaster, for taking us through this update!  We hope you find the site more readable, more functional, and just more fun!  Drop a line to susan@firstgreys.org with your comments!

And a huge thanks to the Kern family!  They've solved some tricky fostering problems for us lately, first by taking a pair of fosters, Magic & Jenny, at the same time.  Then, after Jenny moved on to the Wenrich home, they stepped up and took on yet another foster, Kaci!  Fostering two dogs at once can certainly be a challenge, and the Kerns did a fantastic job.  Many of us have fostered two "bounces" at the same time, but two right off the track...well, that has its own special challenges...and rewards!

Magic has now moved to his forever home, and Jenny is just about to...more happy endings!

If you would like to try fostering...one or a pair!...contact Christine Guth, foster coordinator!

And the Spring meet & greets have started rolling!

The Reading Pet Expo, March 14-16, drew more than 14,000 people on Saturday alone! This event is growing every year, and offers lots of opportunities to connect with people we wouldn't see elsewhere.  Aside from donations, we made contacts that we believe will lead to at least several adoptions...in fact, we have one family applying for a pup already!

Lots of our Reading area folks turned out, including the McCombers, Storms, Bryners, Cuzners, Detterlines, Margaret Herrick, Diana Lindy, and Joan Fish (Sorry if I left anyone out!) and we appreciate Jeff & Tina Stout coming down, as well as Sue Mason coming in from New Jersey!

And Jen Esterly reports that the Bowl A Thon last Sunday drew lots of interest & people...and made a total of $850 for First State!  Thanks to all the bowled, helped, and contributed!

Just a little hubbub around the
First State booth at the Pet Expo

What does a family do to cap off a vacation to Florida?

Well, if they're greyhound rescuers, they bring a dog back with them!

Our thanks to Tina & Scott Esterly and family, for bringing back this handsome young man, Jordan, who is now settling in with the Greens for fostering!
