Get Your Greyhound Gear!

We are thrilled and excited to announce

the rebirth of the First State Store!

April & Tina Esterly have joined forces and these dynamic women are moving forward with lots of new plans for the store!  Look for new items, new prices, new locations.  The Store will even be at the Grapehounds event in New York this weekend!

Check out the First State Online Store often at

www.greyhoundgear.com... and send any suggestions to April & Tina at greyhoundgear@yahoo.com.

The (Mel)Bourne Ultimatum

There has been lots of concern lately in greyhound rescue circles.  After the last race one evening, Melbourne Greyhound Park, in Florida, announced that they were closing down, until at least December.  This unexpected move placed over 200 greyhounds in limbo.  The good news is that all of them have been promised housing until they are placed in rescue groups.   The bad news is that all of these poor pups are stuck in limbo until they can be absorbed into groups.

First State will be taking a large shipment of these dogs the end of August, and another in the fall.

If you have ever thought about fostering, now is the time…the more foster  homes that we have, the more of these Florida pups can relocate north!  Contact Kim at love_my_greys@yahoo.com for more information.

We Have Our Calendar Girls (and boys!)

Congratulations to all the entrants in our first ever calendar contest!  The top vote-getter was Miss Daisy, who is enjoying a summer cool down! Check here for all the winners!

There will be dozens of pictures in the calendar, so be sure to look for your pup when you get your calendar.  Watch here and the First State Store for ordering information!

Dandi’s Story

There is a very special dog in need.

Dandi is a Galgo, one of the Spanish cousins to the greyhound that are used for hunting.

Dandi needs a new home.  He was adopted by a very experienced greyhound owner, but simply has been unable to find his place in her pack.  He is an alpha boy, and will be far happier as an only dog, or with a submissive female.  No kitties or small children need apply.

As assertive as Dandi is with other hounds, he is a love with adults…loving, sweet and playful!

For a video of Dandi, click here!

His rehoming will be handled by the Galgo group.

If Dandi sounds like your next hound, contact greyhndz@comcast.net.

You May Now Kiss The Bride

It was a romance that was doomed from the start.

He…handsome in his dark brindle suit, looking for love in all the wrong places.

She…lovely in white, but already promised to another.

A chance meeting in a park…a stolen kiss…

They may not be spending their lives together, but they’ll always have this special moment!

(By the way, Frank has since found his forever home, so all’s well that ends well!)

Pictures, can I get your pictures?

I’d love to post some pictures from the First State picnic…but it looks like no one from the board had time to get out a camera!  Did you take any pictures?  Please send them to me at firststatenews@comcast.net!  Thanks!
